Why undergo breast reduction?

Breast Reduction surgery is recommended if you have excessively large and/or asymmetrical breasts that can be a burden, be it as a physical pain or psychological discomfort. Some Breast Reduction Sydney clients complain of back and neck pain associated with the excess weight of their breasts. Overly large breasts can also cause shoulder pain from the tight bra straps used to support and stabilize the breasts. Additionally, skin rashes and other skin irritations may be present around the breasts especially the under your breasts that may be feeding ground for bacteria. Any improvement in the size and proportion of the breasts can bring forth an improvement in the patient’s overall well-being and can be reason enough to undergo Breast Reduction surgery.

Can I be a candidate?

Anyone who is physically healthy and feels any discomfort with having large breasts should be able to have breast reduction surgery. Breasts that are excessively large and not proportioned to body size are the frequent cause of back and neck pain as well as skin irritation on shoulders (due to tight bra straps) and rashes beneath your breasts or breast fold. Sleep and participation in activities are affected because of limited movement brought about by your large breasts. If any of these complaints are present, Breast Reduction Sydney may be the answer to that.

How much does it cost?

We, at Breast Reduction Sydney, give you the best, and we would not want you to settle with something affordable but of low standard and quality in the name of service and results. Breast reduction in Sydney may normally cost from $6000 to $13000, depending on the method to be performed, the surgeon’s fee, your hospital stay, and other procedures to be combined with mammoplasty. Those who will offer you affordable or discounted prices may also lower their standards and services. Breast Reduction Sydney can ensure that our practice will be worth every cent that you will spend, from start to finish.

Additional facts

Breast Reduction Techniques

Reduction techniques vary based on the amount of tissue to be removed, breast size and shape, scarring, and the need to breastfeed after surgery. The following are reduction approaches offered by Breast Reduction Sydney:

  • Anchor incision (inverted T technique) extends above the top of the areola downward and across the lower portion of the breasts.
  • Vertical incision extends around the top to the areola with a V-shape incision down the midline of the lower breast.
  • Free nipple graft removes the nipple and the areola and repositions it high above the breast after removal of extra breast tissue.
  • Some in instances, liposuction can be used alone or in combination with other techniques to remove excess breast tissues.
Risks and complications

As with any surgery, there are always potential risks and complications. That is the reason why proper education and relay of information to the patient should be done so that unforeseen or untoward complications may be prevented or avoided. Expected risks, including infection, persistent bleeding or pain, bruising, and hematoma may be present and may be addressed immediately by medications.

Other potential complications include and are not limited to:

  • Scarring or Keloid formation
  • Asymmetry of Breast Shape and Size (even after surgery)
  • Effect on the sensation of breasts (especially in Nipple and Areola)
  • Effect on the function of breasts (breastfeeding or milk production)
  • Breast Lumps

These risks and complications and how to prevent such will be explained thoroughly during your consultations with your Breast Reduction Sydney surgeon, you can be sure that optimum care and careful considerations will be made to avoid these situations.

Procedure during the Surgery

During the initial consultation at Breast Reduction Sydney, the size and shape your breasts and your preference will be tackled, along with the evaluation of surgical options based on your needs.  Other considerations, like the type of surgery to be performed, the desired position for nipple placement, and the preplanning of the whole procedure will also be discussed.

Breast reduction lasts for approximately 2-3 hours. Your Breast Reduction Sydney surgeon will draw incision guidelines on your breasts. Depending on the medical prerogative of the surgeon, local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia may be used. During the surgery, incisions are made within the pre-marked signs, and excess skin is removed. Portions of fat and glandular tissues are also removed. Nipple and areola which are still intact and in place in the original blood vessels and nerves are raised to their new position. The skin will then be brought together and sutured up to reshape the new smaller breasts. Surgical drains may be placed on each breast before fully closing the incision site to allow body fluids to escape as you heal. Surgical tapes and bandages will be used with a surgical bra or compression garment to maintain breast shape while healing. Typically, breast reduction procedures are done on an outpatient basis and you may be allowed to go home the same day.

What to expect during Recovery Period

After the breast reduction surgery, surgical tapes, gauze dressings, and bandages will be applied to the incisions. A surgical or compression bra or bandage will be used to add support and to help shape your breasts. It also helps in minimizing swelling and supporting the breasts as they heal. This is provided to you by Breast Reduction Sydney as needed.

If drain tubes were used during the surgery procedure, you can expect them to be removed in 1 – 2 days.

Pain medications and antibiotic drugs will be prescribed to alleviate and manage your pain for the next few days and to prevent infection of the wound. Topical medications may also be prescribed for your wound care.

Limitations to your movement and extreme caution on early ambulation will be stressed. Work limitation and restrictions should be implemented and return to work, exercise, and daily activities should first be approved by your Breast Reduction Sydney surgeon to prevent any untoward complication.  It would take at least 1-2 weeks for your surgical wounds to heal, and an additional 4-6 weeks before you can be allowed to return to your work and that would still depend on what kind of work you have.

Regular follow-ups will be required after the surgery, and your Breast Reduction Sydney surgeon may require some diagnostic procedures to be done so that you and your doctor can monitor the long-term integrity and results of your procedure.
